Intro
Also known as Belgische Rijpony and Poney de Selle Belge the Belgian Saddle Pony is a relatively recent breed and mainly used under saddle.
Origins
Their studbook was found around the turn of the century and used a foundation of New Forest, Welsh and Connemara ponies as well as Thoroughbred.
There are two different types within the breed, small which is a ‘toy’ pony and large which is more of a sport type. They are bred under the BRp studbook under the Belgian Warmblood Studbook blanket. As it is such a new breed they are still relatively rare, according to the DAD-IS as of 2013, there were between 240-360 of them.
