Barrackr Brumby Horse

Intro

The Brumby horses of Australia are known worldwide and like Mustangs found the Americas, there are pockets of bloodlines which are unique and worth preserving.

Origins

Also like the Americas, there are no native horse breeds found on the continent, all of the horses found in Australia are the descendants of animals that were brought there. The importation of horses started in the late 18th century and many of them crossed vast distances. The long journey, combined with a variety of difficult climates meant that only the most robust animals survived to procreate.

Over the years brumby herds have been fed by cavalry mounts, providing more robust new blood. In many areas they have thrived to the point they are considered a pest, consuming valuable resources and causing environmental damage (they are, after all, an invasive species).

Barrackr Brumbies come specifically from the Greenbank Army Training Area in Queensland, where they are managed by the South East Queensland Brumby Association. Unfortunately, in this area they are considered a pest and often culled for meat.
