Intro
The Australian Draught is a combination of many different heavy breeds, taking typical characteristics from each one.
Origins
Developed over the years through crossbreeding of the four recognized pure draught breeds in Australia Clydesdale, Percheron, Shire and Suffolk Punch. All of these breeds were imported to Australia during colonial days. Belgian draft blood was also introduced more recently. Characteristics of all of these draught breeds can be found in almost any combination of bloodlines, creating many types within the breed.
The Australian Draught Horse Stud Book Society was founded in 1979 to protect and document the breed.
