The Adaev horse comes from the Caspian depression and is one of the many rare breeds that exist today. Their blood comes from the Kazakh horse which dates back to the 5th century B.C.
A Revival
In the 1980’s there was a sudden interest in preserving the bloodlines and an attempt was made to revive the breed. This revival led to dilution of the Kazakh blood by the injection of Don, Thoroughbred and Orlov Trotter blood in the hopes of refining the breed.
The resulting animal was lighter and not as well suited for harsh environment as other animals infused with Kazakh blood.
Different Types
There are three different types associated with the breed, massive, medium and light. The massive being the most aggressively bred and perhaps the least diluted by lighter breeds.
These animals are bred to be working saddle horses can be high spirited. The mares milk is collected to make koumiss which is a mildly alcoholic drink made by fermented horse milk.
