Jumping Horses in Motion

Horses are pretty graceful for such big animals, a powerful stride and strong hind legs both contribute to their grace over fences.

Horses in Motion

The past few weeks I’ve been sharing my collections of horses in motion, giving each type of movement it’s own day to shine.

This week it’s all about jumping, regardless of what they are jumping most horses manage to do it in style. I come from a jumper background and I really appreciate the work (from horse and rider both) it takes to make it through a clear round.

Perpetual Movement

So far I’ve covered the motions of rearing, running, playing & bucking, and there are more to come.

Jump Away

For those of you who don’t know what it feels like to jump over a fence on horseback, hopefully these images will give you a feel for the motion.

Jumping is very fun, however, wtf is up with all these riders?! The guy in Nicos photo is….weird. Everyones leg is out of place (either back or forward), and the chick in Abscond’s photo has no idea how to ride. Yes, on the first glance these horses and riders look good, but one wants to pay attention to the smaller details.

P.S Our horses Ginger (Savannah) and Marshal (Jill) are AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jill and Savannah, please be nice. nbraier’s photo is obviously a steeplechaser (do you know what that is? if not, its a jockey who also jumps as part of the race) and everyone else’s pictures, yes, I agree, leg should be on the girth, but if you watch the olympics and 3 or 4 star events, their legs are not always on the girth, with jumping that high, it is hard to keep your leg right on the girth. So, please be nice. And have you ever heard of beginners? I’m sure you must have been one at one time, so the girl in Abscond’s photo could easilybe a beginner, because as a beginner jumper, I know I balanced myself on the horses neck over jumps.

you guys are all so mean when your probably not even that good calm down jeese nd in jumpers its basicall about what you have to do to get you and your horse ove the fence hunters is more about where your leg must be

Love these photos! Such a great collection, even though not everyone is perfect. That’s the beauty of it though, stages of progression, it is in fact “perpetual movement” because with each fence they gradually gain knowledge and experience. So wonderful!
