There are many places on the planet where we have the opportunity to walk into the past & learn about our ancestors.
History and mystery are all around us, from the sentient Moai of Easter Island to the spiritual ruins of Maccu Piccu to the city of Petra, carved into the hills. What better way to enjoy these special places than through the lenses of talented photographers.
I’m a firm believer in seeing the history of the human race through what they’ve left behind.
Many of these places defy our logic and prove that perhaps ancient people were more advanced than we thought. Each one of them provides us with plenty of fuel for the imagination.
So Much History
Which one is first on your list? Stay tuned, next Friday we’ll check out some beautiful places made by Mother Nature.
Great photos. I would add the city of Palmyra in Syria, Samarkand in Uzbekistan, the Great Wall and any of the standing stone circles in the Scottish Islands.
Thanks Andy,
I’ll have a look at those places and perhaps they’ll inspire me to write part 2.
C´mom!!!
Stonehange in Palmyra out??
There are at least 30 other historical places more important than stonehange. Where is Coliseum? Palmyra? Abul Simbel? Chichen Itza? Great Zimbabwe? Damascus? Byblos? Tulun? The Templar Castles? Great Wall of China? Sarkamand?
I’m already working on part 2, thanks for more ideas!
Sad to say I have only been to Pompeii, Italy which was great.
Not sad at all Judy, I bet it was amazing!
beautiful photos!how i wish i could visit those places someday..
The CN Tower is pretty awesome, especial the glass floor on the highest level, oh my…
Also Warwick castle is an awesome place to be!
Warwick castle, in England, is pretty awesome!
The CN tower isn’t historical enough but i would maybe add the Pyramids. They are awe inspiring.
I would also include the grill that I built in my backyard a couple of years ago. It is FREAKING AWESOME.
waw….awesome places
“South pacific” is not a country. Rapa Nui is in Chile, please correct it.
I have to admit that image of Pompei looks pretty awe inspiring. Having been to Stonehenge it’s actually better in pictures than to visit
it was amazing! better place Taj Mahal – India
Really this is gorgeous yaar…….
I like this list, because after March 2014 I will have visited 8 of the 10 sites on it! The only ones remaining will be Petra and Angkor Wat, and both of those are on my short list . . .
I would suggest Tikal in Guatemala.
This is a nice list, and I know you had a hard time coming up with only 10 to mention. I really want to see Easter Island and Machu Picchu
