Running a big website means I always need more images and there are a number of places I go to find them. Although it’s important to keep trade secrets close to your heart, I decided to share my sources for royalty free horse images with my readers.
For all of you writers and bloggers out there, images help to make an article more digestible and help to emphasize important (or funny) points.
Here is a solid list of places to find stock photography of the equine kind.

Perhaps the most widely used stock photography site, iStockphoto has a great selection of equine images & most can be purchased for a dollar.

A great collection of horse photography of all kinds, each image can be quoted right on the page based on usage needs.
Photographers Direct
A place to connect directly with the photographers, the images come from a variety of photographers and customers request quotes directly from them.
shutterstock
Offers stock photos, illustrations & vector art in high quality for both web & print. They offer subscriptions for various amounts of time as well as an on-demand subscriptions for short term use.
stock.xchange
This site is a great resource for those on a budget. Many of their images are free (be sure to read the licensing) only & only require attribution for use.
Creative Commons Sites
For those who don’t mind providing a link as credit, here are a couple of places to find some amazing images you don’t have to pay for. Be sure to learn about the different creative commons licenses & how they apply to you.
flickr
A popular site for uploading photographs, flickr allows users to search for images under a creative commons licensing which can be used as long as the source is attributed.
Wikimedia
This is a great source for public domain images, many are out of copyright and can be used as long as they remain in the public domain. There is also a great selection of images under creative commons licensing.
Plenty of Images to Go Around
Horse people love to look at images of horses & that is something I expect will remain a constant for quite some time. Adding imagery & illustrations to your website create an atmosphere & help to supplement content (not to mention making it look prettier).
