The American Thoroughbred owes its roots to Bulle Rock, the first Thoroughbred imported to the American Colonies in 1730.
The colonists quickly took to the sport of horse racing and developed a fine appreciation for racing horses. English animals were imported and bred to local stock and the Americans slowly produced their own individual bloodlines.
The First Winner
The first native American Thoroughbred to do well on the track was Sir Archy, who ran so fast that he was retired early due to lack of opponents.
Improving Stock
The Thoroughbred lineage has been widely used to improve other breeds & their blood was instrumental in the development of the Standardbred, American Quarter Horses and the Morgan among others.
