Pictures are fascinating – loved #5 although they are all unique. Never thought much about animals with blue eyes, now I need to do research! Thank you for such a beautiful subject to look into.

Susan – It’s all in the genes. There is one (or more) gene that switches off colour (brown/black) in the eye, just like it can do with the coat (albino horses). It’s recessive and not many horses carry this gene, so that’s why it’s not that common. I believe it is often connected to a lot of white colouring on the horse, that’s why you see it most in paints and horses with white faces.

I believe my favorite of these shots is the little white faced colt lying on the ground. His blue eyes just taking in the world around him. Thanks, Gary, for sharing your God given talent.

These are all GREAT pictures Gary! I think if I had to pick one, it would be the 7th one. I love the contrast of the black horse and his blue eyes…but they’re all beautiful! The 3rd one looks like that horse in Hidalgo:-) I love them all!

All are beautiful. I was wondering, though, why some horses have blue eyes? It’s not all that common, right?
