Description
Evergreen / deciduous shrubs or small trees. Leaves are shiny, dark green, some with wide, spine tipped sections and others with smooth edges. Flowers vary by species. Fruits are bright red / purple / black and grow in clusters.
Concern Level
Only during drought conditions, unpalatable.
Toxic Parts
Berries and leaves.
Symptoms
Gastrointestinal upset, difficulty swallowing, blurred vision, irregular heartbeat, convulsions, death.
Danger
Contains ilicin which is toxic specifically to the digestive system, nervous system and cardiovascular system. Can be fatal.
