Persea americana, Avocado Tree
Description
Can grow to 65 feet, the tree has evergreen leaves arranged alternately on it’s branches. Flowers are green / yellow and inconspicuous. Fruit is pear shaped and gets darker in color as it ripens.
Concern Level
Low, only when horses exposed to avocado groves or trimmings.
Toxic Parts
Leaves, seeds, fruit and bark.
Symptoms
Generally only affects mares and causes noninfectious mastitis, and sometimes gastritis and colic.
Danger
Not generally fatal.
