The goal of breeding was to increase the speed and jumping ability of the larger breed. Some warmblood genetics may have been added to improve the notoriously difficult temperament Maremmano animals can display.

Adding Thoroughbred blood can be a blessing and a curse, it will generally produce finer, faster animals. However it seems to frequently affect the robust nature of hardier types. This combination has remained popular enough to continue and today their brave, athletic nature is popular for jumping. To register as breeding stock, stallions must possess good conformation and pass a jumping test.

Features

Average height 15.7-17 hands

Physique

Head has a straight or convex profile
Neck is long
Back is long
Legs are long and solid
Hooves are hard

Traditional Colors

Generally bay, brown, black or chestnut, can also be sooty or mealy.

Temperament

Athletic and brave
Lively and energetic
Can be stubborn

Use

Show jumping
Riding
Driving

Intro Not an official breed, the Maremmano Megliorato is a cross of Maremmano and Thoroughbred bloodlines.

[41
5,4,118,11,24,176
post-9885","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-italy","tag-bay","tag-black","tag-brown","tag-chestnut","tag-mealy","tag-sooty
["GET
