The Haguard Horse, Bidet de la Hague or Hague Pony is a breed of Bidet horse which is bred in the Hague region of Normandy, France

These hardy little horses were originally bred in hilly, marshy areas of La Hague. They are thought to have Arabian<\/a> or Turkoman<\/a> origins, as they look to have similar genetics. They are quite out of place in this region known for its heavy horse and draft types. The Hague Pony was known for having a peculiar ambling gait, which some called ‘jerky’. Despite their awkward gait, they were capable of covering vast distances making them popular as cow horses. <\/p>\n Essentially this little horse was described to be as tough as granite and extremely surefooted, but nervous in disposition. The breed was announced to be extinct in the early 19th century. This is due in part to cross breeding with Thoroughbreds and Trotters.
