{"id":958,"date":"2010-08-09T13:49:54","date_gmt":"2010-08-09T13:49:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theequinest.com\/breeds\/?p=958"},"modified":"2025-01-30T15:10:39","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T15:10:39","slug":"orlov-trotter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theequinest.com\/breeds\/orlov-trotter","title":{"rendered":"Orlov Trotter"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Intro<\/h3>\n<p>The Orlov Trotter was developed by Count Orlov after receiving a gifted <a href=\"\/breeds\/arabian-horse\">Arabian<\/a> stallion from a Turkish admiral.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>This stallion was put to a <a href=\"\/breeds\/friesian\">Friesian<\/a> mare and the result was the flagship stud for the breed, Bars I (born in 1784). Over the years, the number of pure animals and cross breeding fluctuated, depending on the market. This caused their pure numbers to dwindle. In the late 19th and early 20th century, an uncontrolled influx of <a href=\"\/breeds\/american-saddlebred\">American Saddlebred<\/a> caused numbers to drop even further and it became necessary to protect the breed. <\/p>\n<p>There are four types within the breed, each developed in different regions, Dubrovski, Novotomnikov, Khrenov and Perm. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Dubrovski &#8211;<\/strong> Smaller in stature with a somewhat more primitive build. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Novotomnikov &#8211;<\/strong> Clean build with Arabian-type features. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Khrenov &#8211;<\/strong> The most popular and generally considered the standard type.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Perm &#8211;<\/strong> The largest and most robust with a coarser carriage horse build.<\/p>\n<h3>Features<\/h3>\n<p>Average height 15.1 &#8211;
