This type was favored by knights, as they were brave, robust and powerful. Modern <a hef=\"\/breeds\/auxois\">Auxois<\/a> and <a hef=\"\/breeds\/ardennes\">Ardennes<\/a> breeds are thought to be descendants of this type.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>Named for the historic Burgundy region where they were bred. This type was not particularly large, but very strong for their size. While they proved to be great cavalry mounts, they were somewhat ungainly, with short legs. Looks didn&#8217;t really matter in warfare.
