The Burgundian Horse or Bourguignon was a type used in the Duchy of Burgundy during the Middle Ages. This type was favored by knights, as they were brave, robust and powerful. Modern Auxois<\/a> and Ardennes<\/a> breeds are thought to be descendants of this type.
\n<\/p>\n

Origins<\/h3>\n

Named for the historic Burgundy region where they were bred. This type was not particularly large, but very strong for their size. While they proved to be great cavalry mounts, they were somewhat ungainly, with short legs. Looks didn’t really matter in warfare. They proved a brave mount, powerful enough to bear a fully armored knight, but small enough for agility on the battlefield. <\/p>\n
