They don&#8217;t appear to be listed in the DAD-IS, however they are likely a strain of <a href=\"\/breeds\/dagestan-pony\">Dagestan Pony<\/a>.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>As with many of the breeds that come from the steppe areas, they are essential to the local people as transportation and herding as well as a source of food and milk. They were essential in the creation of the <a href=\"\/breeds\/kabarda\">Kabardian breed<\/a>. There are few formal breeding programs for the animals in the area, many of them are left semi-feral allowing nature to do her work.
