Originally imported in 1964, they are now considered a local breed in Vietnam.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>This is an old breed and come from a mix of sturdy steppe horses crossed with lighter Persian and <a href=\"\/breeds\/turkoman\">Turkoman<\/a> blood. The original type was fine and reminiscent of the lighter desert breeds. As the years passed, the type changed and by the time they made their way to Vietnam, they were more robust animals. <\/p>\n<p>Warm climates are notoriously difficult places to raise horses and island populations often need an influx of outside blood. In 2013 a project was established to cross Cabadin animals with local pony types to improve the stock.
