This is considered one of the Basque breeds.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>This particular strain was established in the 19th century, using Jaca Navarra as a foundation, with as addition of various French draft breeds, including but not limited to <a href=\"\/breeds\/breton\">Breton<\/a>, <a href=\"\/breeds\/percheron\">Pecheron<\/a>, <a href=\"\/breeds\/northern-ardennais\">Ardennais<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/theequinest.com\/breeds\/comtois\">Comtois<\/a>. The breeding objective was essentially size, as this breed is bred primarily for meat. <\/p>\n<p>Officially recognized by the government as a breed in 1979 and an association formed by 1999. In 2001 their studbook was officially established and recognized.
