However, when racing started to take hold of the country, most breeders switched to trotters. Through most of the 20th century, warmblood breeding was sporadic except for a small population of <a href=\"https:\/\/theequinest.com\/breeds\/hanoverian\">Hanovarian<\/a> mares at the Krumperk Horse Breeding Centre. <\/p>\n<p>After Slovenia became independent, breeders again began to focus on breeding modern, sport type warmbloods for competitive equestrian sports. Sport type and <a href=\"\/breeds\/anglo-arabian\">Anglo-Arabian<\/a> stallions were imported to cross with local mares.
