Origins<\/h3>\n
Noriker horses have long been appreciated for being a lighter, adaptable cold blooded draft type. Breeding of the Slovakian strain began in 1950 in Ve\u013ek\u00e1 L\u00faka near Mur\u00e1n to produce animals for army and forestry services. Before long, more breeding centers were built. Like many northern breeds, herds live outside year round, allowing nature to keep their genetics strong. <\/p>\n
In the mid 19th century, a foundation herd of Hutsul<\/a> was established, to which they added Fjord<\/a>, Haflinger<\/a> and Noriker blood. The goal was to create a Slovak Mountain horse with a larger frame, but maintain characteristics of the original Hutsul stock.<\/p>\n Today, the Noric of Murany is still bred at two farms in Dob\u0161in\u00e1 and Ve\u013ek\u00e1 L\u00faka and closely monitored.
