Native to the Caucasus Mountains in Russia, the Balkar Horse is named for the Karachay-Balkar people. This is not strictly a breed, but rather a variety of Kabarda<\/a> specifically in Kabardino Balkaria. The Kabardan types are all strong animals, created by a harsh climate, they are known for great adaptability. While there are three recognized types within the breed, there are no centralized breeding programs, so conformation even between types will be blurry to some degree.
