The handsome Sublime was crossed with primarily Spanish Jennet mares, but there is some Andalusian influence as well. The result was a calm, beautiful horse with lovely smooth gaits, one of which is called the marcha.

This breed quickly took hold across Brazil, in a time when horseback was the most efficient travel, smooth gaits and tireless energy made them sublimely suitable for the task. Their first breeders association was formed in 1949, setting standards for the breed and maintaining some control over the bloodlines. Since this time no other breeds have been crossed with the Mangalarga Marchador keeping them incredibly pure.

Features

Average height 14.2 – 16 hands

Physique

Head is triangular with a straight profile
Eyes are large and dark
Ears are well set and erect with inwardly turned tips
Neck is muscular and arched
Chest is deep and muscular
Back is medium in length, straight and well muscled
Legs are muscular, long and straight

Colors

All colors except appaloosa white patterns

Temperament

Docile and willing
Eager to please

Use

Cattle horse
Riding horse
Transportation
Sport horse

Helpful Links

* all links open in a new window
US Mangalarga Marchador Association

Where to Buy

Summerwind Marchadors Future Foals Program
Montana Mangalarga Marchadors

Mangalarga Marchador Studs

Rancho Linda Marchadores

More Images

Video

Intro The Mangalarga Marchador is the most popular and widely found horse in Brazil where they were developed in 1740 by Joao Francisco of Portugal.

[48
9
post-827","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-brazil","tag-all-colors
["GET
