Initially the types consisted of local mares crossed with Ardennais, Belgian Draft and Swedish Ardennes animals.

There was a large handful of different types or varieties found in the nation early in the 20th century. In 1964 a centralized studbook was established and all of the draft types were consolidated. Later, in 2013 a few of the distinct breeds branched off with their own studbooks. The breed itself is a heavy draft type, similar to that found in several of the Eastern European nations.

As mentioned previously, this draft breed is among the few with adequate numbers. However as draft horse power is a thing of the past, their numbers are likely because they are bred for meat. Mostly exporting it to the Italian market.

Features

Average height 14.6 – 15.7 hands

Physique

Head is heavy with a straight profile
Neck is thick and arched
Chest is broad
Legs are short and strong
Hooves are solid

Traditional Colors

Solid colors

Use

Draft work
Agriculture
Meat production

Helpful Links

Polish Genetic Biodiversity Programs

More Images

Video

Intro In Poland called Polski Koń Zimnokrwisty, the Polish Coldblood Horse is among the few European draft breeds that isn’t listed with low numbers in the DAD-IS.
