This was most commonly found in the historical region of Malopolska, which at one time covered a large part of southeastern Poland. This outside blood influenced local animals for hundreds of years, until mid 19th century.

As is to be expected, the animals in this region became something other than the native animals that once were bred there. During the second half of the 19th century English Thoroughbred also left its mark on the breed. However characteristics bred into them by the ‘oriental’ animals bred true remained.

While the modern Małopolski is bred as more of a sport horse, the Old Style looks closer to a coldblooded trotter or a heavy warmblood.

The DAD-IS lists them as endangered and as of 2023, there were 610 animals left.

Features

Average height 15.9-16.1 hands

Physique

Harmonious conformation
Neck is long
Defined withers
Shoulder is long and oblique
Tail is set high
Legs are dry

Traditional Colors

Solid colors

Temperament

Lively but gentle

Use

Riding
Sport

Helpful Links

*All links open in a new window
Polish Genetic Biodiversity Programs

More Images

Video

Intro Not to be confused with the modern Małopolski, the Małopolski w Starym Typie or Małopolski Old Type is considered a separate breed, although both are considered Anglo Arabians.

[98
126,127,25
post-8215","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-poland","tag-at-risk","tag-endangered","tag-solid-colors
["GET
