There are no centralized breeding programs in the nation, so ‘breeds’ are largely based on the area and type of an animal. It is possible the M’Bayar Horse is native to the area, or it could be a localized strain of Barb<\/a> from the north. During the 20th century, Barbs from Mali, Mauretania and Morocco contributed their genetics, as did some Arabian<\/a> and Anglo-Arabian<\/a> bloodlines. <\/p>\n

While breeding may not be centralized, Senegal is an equestrian nation. In 1996 they had the largest horse population of any West African country. <\/p>\n
