The resulting animal was as good for riding as it was for pulling a plow.

After the mid 20th century, their numbers dwindled but luckily survived. Today the registry’s goal is to produce a warmblood horse with similar adaptability. To be registered, animals must possess at least 75% Classic Gelderlander blood. Keeping their bloodlines actually true to breed type, which is a bit different than most warmblood registries. While the KWPN version focuses on producing sport animals, the KGBS cares more about preserving the heritage of agricultural animals in the Netherlands.

Features

Average height 15.7 hands

Physique

Head has a straight profile
Eyes are expressive
Neck is shapely and muscular
Back is straight and long
Tail is high set
Chest is full and deep
Shoulder is sloped and long
Legs are long and strong with broad joints
Hooves are broad and strong

Traditional Colors

Solid colors

Temperament

Good character, willingness to work, stress resistance, health, strength and endurance”.
