Late in that same century, trotting races became popular as well and the focus of breeding local animals was turned specifically to trotting. The foundation of this breed is local mares crossed with <a href=\"https:\/\/theequinest.com\/breeds\/american-standardbred\">American Standardbred<\/a> and <a href=\"\/breeds\/anglo-arabian\">Anglo Arabian<\/a> stallions.<\/p>\n<p>While popular in their day, by the end of the 20th century, their numbers were dangerously low.
