Intro<\/h3>\n

The Lichuan horse comes from the mountainous areas of Lichuan County in southwestern Hubei Province in China. The people of this area have ancient ties with horsemanship and horse production.
\n<\/p>\n

Origins<\/h3>\n

A highly valued member of society, horses were used for transportation of goods on mountain paths. The Lichuan is the largest of the southwestern Chinese breeds. <\/p>\n

In 1958 breeding and insemination programs were put into place that played a key role in the development of today’s breed. There is still an agricultural need for these animals and their extreme sturdiness makes them quite valuable.<\/p>\n
