Palatinate Ardennes comes from crosses between various French and Belgian draft animals, although French Ardennais had the most influence on the breed. Even though the studbook for this breed is open accepts a large number of draft bloodlines, as long as they had one registered Pfalz Ardenner parent.

The Palatinate Ardennes was not considered a breed for many years, but rather a type of Ardennes and by the 1970’s their numbers had dwindled. That changed in the 2010’s when a group of enthusiastic breeders dedicated themselves to preserving this versatile breed.

Features

Average height 15-16 hands

Physique

Head is relatively small with broad forehead
Ears are short
Chest is broad
Muscular croup
Deep girth
Hooves are sturdy

Traditional Colors

Most solid colors

Temperament

Gentle and eager
Balanced and kind

Use

Agriculture
Skidding
Driving
Riding
Meat production

Helpful Links

*All links open in a new window
Pferdezuchtverband Rheinland – Pfalz – Pferdezentrum Saar e.V.
Deutsche Reiterliche Vereinigung e.V.

Video

Intro Also known as Pfalz Ardenner Kaltblut, the Palatinate Ardennes Coldblood is a variation of the heavy Ardennes draft breed.
