A member of the Southeast Asia Pony group, the Cambodian Horse is a small, strong pony. As much of Cambodia can be difficult to access by vehicle, horses are still used for transportation.

The Cambodian Pony origins are unknown and they were of little importance until the French colonial period, during which horse breeding was given strict attention. The climate of the island made it better suited to raising horses than some of the neighboring countries. <\/p>\n
After WWII interest in horse breeding declined and during the 1970’s the Khmer Rouge banned horse riding which likely caused their uncertain numbers to plummet. <\/p>\n
