The Criollo Altiplanico is a localized variety of Criollo<\/a>, raised in high tableland pastures of the Andes alongside llamas and alpacas. There is very little documentation about the origins of this breed. Although it can be assumed that the Altipl\u00e1nico is simply a highly localized offshoot of Criollo found primarily in the Andes. Probably a shorter, stronger and more robust animal than those found at lower altitude.
