Also called Togo Pony and Cotocoli, the Koto-Koli Pony comes from West Africa and can be found in Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso and Nigeria. Likely related to the Barb<\/a> with localized influences in each country or region. The variety found in Benin is called Berba. Traditionally Bred by the Koto-Koli and Berbas people, primarily for hunting. The origins of this breed are disputed, with some believing they are a Barb offshoot and others claiming they are native to northern Benin. They are found in a region known for dwarf livestock and the small Kirdi<\/a>, which is probably related. <\/p>\n This breed dropped dramatically in numbers during the late 20th century. In large part due to the creation of Pendjari National Park, which encroaches on traditional hunting territory of the Berbas. They are allegedly at risk of having their horses slaughtered by park rangers should they attempt to access the land now. <\/p>\n Average height 12-12.3 hands Head is large
