Like many of the West African breeds, they are generally of Barb or Dongola ancestry. Although these horses can have a natural resistance to trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), which is found in other native equines of the area.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>This pony is named for the Bobo-Dioulasso region and are very rare. Like other West African countries, there are no centrally kept studbooks or breeding programs we could find. Lack of reliable information makes them a mystery, but the unique immunity to trypanosomiasis in their bloodlines indicates they have been in the area for a long time. Their genetics are interesting and worth studying, as there are not many identified native feral breeds in Africa.
