The horse breed takes its name from the area and the breeding goal was a larger, capable saddle horse that would make good military mounts (there is little information about the type originally used). However, this larger type is said to have died out after WWI.

In 1935 the modern Cukurova was established in 1935 using a foundation of Uzunyayla and Turkish Arabians, then crossing them with native Turkish Anadolu ponies. Still slightly larger than the Anadolu, their average height is not as tall as the older model.

The DAD-IS says as of 2003 the Cukurova is at risk, but provide no population data.

Features

Average height 13.2 to 15 hands

Physique

Head is long with a slight convex profile
Ears are high set and upright
Neck is long
Chest is narrow
Abdomen is rounded
Croup is long and slightly sloping

Traditional Colors

Solid colors

Temperament

Spirited and high energy

Use

Riding
Transportation

Helpful Links

The domestic livestock resources of Turkey

More Images

Intro Only about 3,000 individuals of this breed exist and at present there is no breed association or stud book for them.

[26
126,25
post-459","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-turkey","tag-at-risk","tag-solid-colors
["GET
