Only about 3,000 individuals of this breed exist and at present there is no breed association or stud book for them.

Cukurova was among the first studs to be established in Ottoman times late in the 19th century. The horse breed takes its name from the area and the breeding goal was a larger, capable saddle horse that would make good military mounts (there is little information about the type originally used). However, this larger type is said to have died out after WWI. <\/p>\n
In 1935 the modern Cukurova was established in 1935 using a foundation of Uzunyayla<\/a> and Turkish Arabians<\/a>, then crossing them with native Turkish Anadolu ponies<\/a>. Still slightly larger than the Anadolu, their average height is not as tall as the older model. <\/p>\n The DAD-IS says as of 2003 the Cukurova is at risk, but provide no population data. <\/p>\n Average height 13.2 to 15 hands <\/p>\n Head is long with a slight convex profileFeatures<\/h3>\n
