They are a smart, robust and surefooted breed, honed by natural selection in the tough terrain they inhabit.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>As with all breeds in the Americas, the Andino pony is descendant from the horses of Spanish Conquistadors. Over the centuries natural selection has created a smaller, more compact animal well suited to the tough local terrain and climate of the area.
