Today the breed is extinct, however their bloodlines live on in a variety of modern French breeds including the <a href=\"\/breeds\/selle-francais\/\">Selle Fran\u00e7ais<\/a>.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>Developed as a versatile horse, the foundation of Anglo-Norman bloodlines was local <a href=\"\/breeds\/french-cob\">Norman<\/a> mares crossed with <a href=\"\/breeds\/english-thoroughbred\">Thoroughbred<\/a>, <a href=\"\/breeds\/norfolk-roadster\">Norfolk Roadster<\/a> and other half-breeds, including <a href=\"\/breeds\/mecklenburg\">Mecklenburg<\/a> animals.<\/p>\n<p>Through this cross breeding three different types emerged: a light draft (the <a href=\"\/breeds\/french-cob\">Norman Cob<\/a> of today); a fast harness horse (the <a href=\"\/breeds\/french-trotter\">French Trotter<\/a> of today); and a general riding horse that was well suited for military service (the Anglo-Norman).  <\/p>\n<h3>New Blood<\/h3>\n<p>In the mid 20th century the Anglo-Norman bloodlines received an infusion of regional warmblood lineage with the goal of creating the foundation of the Selle Fran\u00e7ais studbook.
