Intro<\/h3>\n

The Canadian Rustic Pony is a highly athletic animal that has recently seen an increased interest. They are the first horse breed developed in western Canada.
\n<\/p>\n

Origins<\/h3>\n

The bloodlines of this breed come from Arabian<\/a>, Welsh Mountain Ponies<\/a> and Tarpan<\/a>, displaying the beloved characteristic traits of each one. They were developed by Dr. Peter Neifeld of Manitoba. <\/p>\n

Relatively new, the Rustic Pony Association wasn’t established until 1989. Until that time they were only found in the Manitoba and Saskatchewan provinces, but since then they have become popular in the US as well. <\/p>\n

Average height 12.2 – 13.2 hands
\nSturdy and hardy
\nSmooth gaits<\/p>\n

Physique<\/h3>\n

Arab type pony
\nHead has straight or dished profile and small muzzle
\nEyes are large, prominent and widely set
\nEars are small and pricked
\nNeck is thick, medium in length and arched
\nMane is partly raised
\nBack is strong and short
\nLegs are strong with hard feet<\/p>\n

Usually carry the dun<\/a> gene and display dorsal stripe and primitive shading
\ngrey<\/a> | bay<\/a><\/p>\n
