{"id":274,"date":"2010-08-09T00:34:52","date_gmt":"2010-08-09T00:34:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theequinest.com\/breeds\/?p=274"},"modified":"2025-02-24T19:23:58","modified_gmt":"2025-02-24T19:23:58","slug":"bhotia-pony","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theequinest.com\/breeds\/bhotia-pony","title":{"rendered":"Bhotia Pony"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Intro<\/h3>\n<p>Also called Bhutia Pony, Bhote Ghoda, Bhutan Pony, Bhutani, Bhutua Pony and Indian Country Bred pony, the Bhotia Pony is well suited to mountainous terrain that most other breeds could never navigate.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>Found in Nepal, Bhutan, the Sikkim and Darjeeling regions of India, they are remarkably similar to the native <a href=\"\/breeds\/tibetan-pony\">Tibetan pony<\/a> and <a href=\"\/breeds\/chamurthi\">Spiti Ponies<\/a>. In all likelihood, the three bloodlines have been crossed on a number of occasions. As a result, it is not uncommon for the Bhutia, Spiti and Tibetan breeds to be collectively called &#8220;Indian Country Bred&#8221; ponies.<\/p>\n<p>Due to a lack of any regimented breeding programs and poor nutrition, these animals tend to be smaller and less robust than breeds found in lush areas.
