This breed is thought to be a descendant of the little known <a href=\"\/breeds\/mousseye-pony\">Poney Mousseye<\/a> of Cameroon.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>This pony probably also has <a href=\"\/breeds\/barb\">Barb<\/a> influence, when they were brought to Nigeria by Nomads. They were were bred to local ponies and the resulting animal became the Bhirum Pony. They are generally considered a type of West African Dongola or West African Barb (sometimes referred to as degenerate Barbs &#8211; probably by pureblood Barb breeders). <\/p>\n<p>The Nigerian is a large pony breed, although they are occasionally referred to as small horses.
