They are mainly bred by the Bakhtiari tribesmen of Khuzestan Province in the south of Iran.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>The basis of this breed began in the 18th century with strains of Hamdani, Khuhilan, Nesman and other <a href=\"\/breeds\/arabian-horse\">Arabian<\/a> types. However breeding become so mixed that the Bakhtiari cannot be compared to a purebred Arabian (in Iran, an Arabian horse is called <a href=\"\/breeds\/asil\">Asil<\/a> which means pure). The objective was to create a well-bred horse that could be adapted to many climates found in the region. <\/p>\n<p>Bred by the Bakhtiari tribe from which they take their name, they are raised in semi-nomadic conditions.
