<\/p>\nThe Bajau breed comes from the humid, tropical north of the island of Borneo. This extreme environment has produced a breed with the ability to resist some parasitic infections.
\n<\/p>\n
Bred by the Bajau people, used locally for work, herding, transportation as well as festivals and tourist attractions. The fact that this pony is highly adaptable to the extreme heat and tropical climate makes it a valued asset to the local people. They are light, thin animals and except for their smaller height, more of a small horse than a pony. The Bajau people have a long tradition of horsemanship and are known for being masterful riders. <\/p>\n
As seen below, the Bajau honored during traditional parades, where they are adorned with bright costumes with festive bells and finely worked bridles. Their riders, as handsomely dressed as their mounts strut their stuff to show off their riding skills. <\/p>\n
