Currently they are found in vastly reduced territories.<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are five recognized subspecies of this ass. <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1.<\/strong> Mongolian Wild Ass or <em>Equus hemionus hemionus<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>2.<\/strong> Indian Wild Ass or <em>Equus hemionus khur<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>3.<\/strong> Turkmen kulan or <em>Equus hemionus kulan<\/em><br \/>\n<strong>4.<\/strong> Onager or <em>Equus hemionus onager <\/em><br \/>\n<strong>5.<\/strong> Syrian Wild Ass or <em>Equus hemionus hemippus<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Mongolian Wild Ass is the most abundant of the sub-species and accounts for almost 80% of the species entire population.
