{"id":1682,"date":"2010-08-13T15:54:26","date_gmt":"2010-08-13T15:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.theequinest.com\/breeds\/?p=1682"},"modified":"2025-01-16T12:54:44","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T12:54:44","slug":"yonaguni","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theequinest.com\/breeds\/yonaguni","title":{"rendered":"Yonaguni Horse"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Intro<\/h3>\n<p>The Yonaguni is an incredibly rare small native pony breed that comes from the southwest islands of Japan.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>Their origins are a mystery but it is thought that they were either introduced from southern islands about 2000 years ago or that they came from Korea and are related to the <a href=\"\/breeds\/cheju-pony\">Cheju<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This breed closely resembles <a href=\"\/breeds\/tokara\">Tokara<\/a> and <a href=\"\/breeds\/miyako-pony\">Miyako ponies<\/a>, both native to Japan as well. For many years the horse was an indispensable part of rural households, for farm work and transportation.
