These include Abeia, Dahmaa, Giawf, Jofi, Omarqoub, Saqallwiya and Shweimaa. It is unlikely there are so many breeds native to the country, they are probably strains of Arabian or Barb. To simplify we will combine them into one and call them Yemeni horse (which does not appear in the DAD-IS and could simply describe another type).

Origins

Horse breeding in this part of the world is an ancient practice, predating modern governments and borders. Thought to be descendants of stock indigenous to the northern Arabian Peninsula and of early Arabian animals. If studbooks are kept, they are not publicly available and unlikely to be centralized. This makes tracking breeds in the nation next to impossible, while also implying that country bred animals are commonly found. While they may be country bred, the available horseflesh could be uncommonly fine.

Features

Average height 15 hands

Physique

Head is cone shaped
Ears are small and thin
Chest is wide
Back is short and often curved
Legs are strong with large joints
Hooves are round and strong

Traditional Colors

All colors

Use

Riding horse
Transportation

Video

Intro There are a variety of breeds listed in the DAD-IS for Yemen, however there is not much information to be found about them.
