The Yanqi comes from several countries in the Xianjiang Autonomous Region of China.

This breed is ancient and their ancestors developed from Mongolian<\/a> ponies brought to the area during the 13th century. They were influenced by Kazakh<\/a> and Kabarda<\/a> animals over the years. After the 18th century Don<\/a> and Orlov Trotter<\/a> blood was added to improve the breed. Bred for centuries, they are known for their robust nature and adaptability.<\/p>\n A lack of centralized breeding programs and low density nomadic lifestyles make their lineage difficult to trace. This is also the reason given for their decline in numbers.
