They were influenced by Kazakh and Kabarda animals over the years. After the 18th century Don and Orlov Trotter blood was added to improve the breed. Bred for centuries, they are known for their robust nature and adaptability.

A lack of centralized breeding programs and low density nomadic lifestyles make their lineage difficult to trace. This is also the reason given for their decline in numbers. Bred in the hinterland of the Tianshan Mountains and is intertwined with the nomadic lifestyles of Mongolian people.

2 Yanqi Types

Basin – lighter in conformation
Mountin – a more robust animal

Features

Average height 13 – 14 hands

Physique

Head is dry with a straight profile
Eyes are large and open
Ears are alert
Neck is medium in length and straight
Chest is medium in width and depth
Back is long, straight and narrow
Legs are strong with well developed joints

Traditional Colors

chestnut, black, bay and brown are most common

Temperament

Spirited and bold
Willing and kind

Use

Riding horse
Farm work
Draft
Milk Production

Helpful Links

Identification of Genetic Relationships and Group Structure Analysis of Yanqi Horses

[47
5,4,118,11
post-1673","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-china","tag-bay","tag-black","tag-brown","tag-chestnut
["GET
