Created by breeding warmblood mares with imported draft studs early in the 19th century, primarily Noriker, then later influence by Ardennais, Percheron and Brabant.

Due to environmental factors, different studs tended to produce different types, base on localized needs. Regardless where they were bred, they became quite popular as strong farm horses. Sadly as the 20th century eliminated the need for animals in agriculture the main reason they are bred today is meat and milk production.

Features

Average height 16-17 hands

Physique

Head is medium sized and wide with a straight or slightly convex profile
Ears are small
Eyes are large
Neck is arched and high set
Chest is broad and deep
Back is long with well sprung ribs
Croup is sloping
Legs are strong and moderately feathered
Hooves are large

Traditional Colors

Generally bay or brown, but a small percentage can also be found in black, chestnut and grey

Temperament

Hard working and calm

Use

Meat and Milk production
Riding horse
Logging
Agriculture

Video

Intro Also called Croatian Hladnokrvnjak, Hrvatski Hladnokrvnjak and Croatian Coldblood, the Hladnokrvnjak comes from the northwest and are fairly common in Croatia.

[92
126,5,118,135
post-1364","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-croatia","tag-at-risk","tag-bay","tag-brown","tag-vulnerable
["GET
