They are capable of multiple gaits, walk, pleasure walk, merry walk, trot, canter, slow gait and the rack.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>The breed originated with a <a href=\"\/breeds\/tennessee-walking-horse\">Tennessee Walking Horse<\/a> and <a href=\"\/breeds\/welsh-b\">Welsh pony<\/a> cross, created a handsome animal with gliding gaits. The seven-gaits of this pony are inherited and natural. In fact, both the pleasure walk and merry walk gaits are unique to the breed.<\/p>\n<p>The American Walking Pony Registry was founded in 1968 by the breed founder, Joan Hudson Brown.
