Horses are not native to the Australian continent and over the years a surprising variety of bloodlines have made their way down under.
\n<\/p>\n

Origins<\/h3>\n

The Welsh Ponies are known worldwide for their hardiness, kind temperament and fine profile. This is a handsome breed and there are several breeding categories which are registered under different sections. All of the Welsh types can be found in Australia and they are considered locally adapted. <\/p>\n

Records show Welsh Pony and Cob types being imported since early in the 19th century. While records are spotty, they have had an influence on the types of animals bred in Australia since. <\/p>\n

Welsh Types<\/a>
\nSection A<\/a> – Which is the mountain pony and they may not exceed 12 hands.
\nSection B<\/a> – A slightly larger animal that stands 12 – 13.2 hands
\nSection C<\/a> – A pony of cob type and a more robust animal standing up to 13.2 hands
\nSection D<\/a> – The Welsh Cob which is a horse type standing taller than 13.2 hands
\nSection K<\/a> – Part bred Welsh, must possess at least 20% Welsh blood<\/p>\n
