The Racking Horse is well known for their handsome demeanor, calm disposition, great strength & enduring stamina.

This is a breed that was developed by plantation owners prior to the Civil War who had need of an animal they could ride for hours without becoming sore. The smooth gait of the Racking Horse soon become a favorite and was widely used. <\/p>\n
In 1960 a group of men, led by Joe Bright began a breeding program with the intention of having the Racking Horse breed officially recognized. Finally achieving that goal in 1971, when the USDA recognized the association and named them an official breed. This was the result of Bright finding and working closely with breeding experts in pleasure riding and show animals. <\/p>\n
The breed grew in popularity as it was not tied to one state or region. They chose the Racking Horse name to recognize their smooth single foot gait known as rack. Less than physical characteristics, Racking horses were initially registered based solely on their gaits. <\/p>\n
Average height 14.2 \u2013 16 hands<\/p>\n
