The smooth gait of the Racking Horse soon become a favorite and was widely used.

In 1960 a group of men, led by Joe Bright began a breeding program with the intention of having the Racking Horse breed officially recognized. Finally achieving that goal in 1971, when the USDA recognized the association and named them an official breed. This was the result of Bright finding and working closely with breeding experts in pleasure riding and show animals.

The breed grew in popularity as it was not tied to one state or region. They chose the Racking Horse name to recognize their smooth single foot gait known as rack. Less than physical characteristics, Racking horses were initially registered based solely on their gaits.

Features

Average height 14.2 – 16 hands

Physique

Head is well proportioned with a straight profile
Neck is medium in length and arched
Chest is wide and deep
Shoulders are sloped
Legs are strong and well formed

Traditional Colors

All colors

Temperament

Intelligent and willing

Use

Show horse
Riding horse

Helpful Links

* all links open in a new window
The National Racking Horse Association
The Racking Horse Breeders’ Association of America
Florida Walking & Racking Horse Association

Video

Intro The Racking Horse is well known for their handsome demeanor, calm disposition, great strength & enduring stamina.

[8
9
post-1017","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-usa","tag-all-colors
["GET
