They are essentially a strain of <a href=\"\/breeds\/andravida\">Andravida<\/a>.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>Origins<\/h3>\n<p>Established in the early 20th century, the Zakynthos by crossing local island mares with <a href=\"\/breeds\/anglo-arabian\">Anglo Arabian<\/a> stallions. Breeding was slowed by WWI, but began again in 1918 and <href=\"\/breeds\/english-thoroughbred\">English Thoroughbred<\/a> influence was added.
